they spent the next episode budget on this fight scene so they gotta do another recap. of course if they'd just do the full fight in order without skipping to other people randomly we wouldn't need recaps.

This wasn't even a true recap episode. I remember early Wano arc, the recaps were from start to finish. This recap gave returning context with a hint of new art styles (sunset with Zeff part). Also this episode's budget went full on Euro style animation for most of the fight. Which was perfect for Sanji. With all those French cuisine & butcher cuts being named one after the other. This episode was exquisite. (And not messed up like the Pain vs Naruto fight)

Hey I give credit when credit is due as part of the OG big 3. But gotta call the flaws where they've been as well. That fight will be remembered for generations. When you're a famous series, people are gonna talk about you for a long time. If you take chances on new animation styles, you better be sure it's orchestrated properly, otherwise they ruin a defining moment, something as important as an arch nemesis villain, on a wasted opportunity to flex.

Because if the pacing was normal we would catch up to the manga within a month.

If you want crisp animation like this episode, then gotta be patient, it takes time for this kind of animation be done, Zoro will get his turn after the recap, same director that did this episode will do it too.

Yeah it felt like Queen could take hits forver, I have to give it to him he has a lot of reselience, he took on Luffy, Big Mom, Chopper, Zoro and Sanji so he wasn't easy to take down. I do like the fact this fight focused a lot more on Sanji's past rather than just Queen being annoying and provoking him.

I think it was a very good fight although I do wish we would've seen Sanji in his suit again.

they're not flying over the ocean anymore since they're already pretty close to the capital so he fell on land (you can actually see that here when he's falling so no spoiler tbh) and as a manga reader I can tell you that you'll know what happens to Queen later on

No I noticed a slight difference in recap episodes as of recently. Toei knows they can't ruin the momentum with full recaps, so these episodes have been increasingly having either: better animation with extra scenes OR short recaps in a different art style. But never both. (Yamato, Momonosuke, Zoro, Oden's etc.).

They're finally building up suspense & excitement, viewer statistics or not, they know deep down it will ruin all the climactic feelings we're having if they slow-drip the plot. They gotta keep the ball rolling if they want to keep it whole, it's also why there's been less breaks these past few months compared to last year.

demon slayer is on a whole different level. i don't want to be a crazy fanboy, but its true, that demon slayer's animation is far ahead of every other anime. maybe vinland sage could be a competition, but the lack of action makes MAPPA's work a little less entertaining.
but still.. compared to those 2, one piece is a bottom tier xd

a few months ago we got an ep which was animated with a different studio, and it was really better XD but reaching Demon Slayer's level is ABSOLUTELY impossible.

Yes but no. Demon slayer is on a different level, but I wouldn’t say it is too far ahead, I think other studios are catching up. Vinland saga is not competition to demon slayer, maybe another mappa work like jjk or csm could be. One pieces animation is not bottom tier compared to those two either, I’d like to think that when toei pulls their finger out, one piece can have the animation level of the top studios. 1015 for example, or the “zoom, zoom, zoom” episodes which are probably the best in modern one piece. Reaching demon slayers level is not impossible, just unlikely for now, if you compare animation differences from early 2010, late 2000s and now it amazing, who says this won’t happen in the future?? Ufotable probs the best studio still when it comes to quality
